Video showing the Acrylic Mount up close, featuring a 30"x45" print with acrylic mount of "Golden Sunrise SF"
Acrylic Mounted prints have become a benchmark form of photographic display in the finest art galleries and museums around the world. The "wow factor" of this presentation style is undeniable and displays well with both color and black and white photographs. With the right lighting, the colors and contrast of images show themselves like no other form of display. My personal opinion is this effect comes from the combination of the acrylic glass being so close to the print (literally glued on top of the image) and the types of modern papers used with Acrylic Mounts. The benefit of adhering the acrylic glass to the face of the print is that over time there is no chance for the print to warp and develop waves underneath the acrylic, which can happen with traditional paper prints displayed under glass and using an economical framing service.
Building an Acrylic Mount consists of producing an archival print and adhering it to a rigid material called DiBond, then adhering a piece of acrylic glass to "face" of the print to protect it. The entire mount is then attached to an aluminum back-frame that allows the print to "float" off the wall when hung.
Acrylic Mounts ship with instructions for care (dusting and cleaning), which is very easy and convenient. The unique acrylic glass that is used on my Acrylic Mounts offers 99% UV protection, and has an anti-static and anti-reflection composition. The acrylic is also shatter and abrasion resistant.
